INTRODUCING SENTINEL PLUS

THE ASTHMA CHALLENGE

This video describes the risks of SABA over-use and the alignment to reducing SABA over-use provided by the 2024 BTS/NICE/SIGN asthma guidelines, which move away from SABA reliever inhalers and towards anti-inflammatory based reliever inhalers for eligible new and uncontrolled asthma patients.

THE SENTINEL PILOT

The results from the 2020 SENTINEL project pilot PCN demonstrate the potential impact that supported guideline implementation can have to deliver sustained results in reducing SABA over-reliance in asthma.

This video discusses the initial results from the implementation of the SENTINEL quality improvement initiative in the Hull and East Yorkshire region, across a population of 2,500 registered asthma patients.

INTRODUCING SENTINEL PLUS

Based on the positive results of the original SENTINEL quality improvement initiative, the SENTINEL Plus quality improvement framework was developed to support other regions across the UK to improve outcomes for asthma patients.

Find out more about how the SENTINEL Plus package was co-designed in this video.

SENTINEL Plus is developed with the aim of improving outcomes for asthma patients through identifying and addressing short-acting beta 2 agonist (SABA) over-reliance
