Professor and Honorary Consultant of Respiratory Medicine working at Hull York Medical School, University of Hull and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Mike is Clinical Lead for the Humber and North Yorkshire Respiratory Network and chairs the Hull and East Yorkshire Respiratory Education Group. He leads the Hull and East Yorkshire Integrated COPD Service and is a member of the local asthma service. He undertakes research relating to the diagnosis and management of airways diseases, such as asthma and COPD, and their exacerbations, and is a clinical lead for the Respiratory Transformation Partnership, which is a nationally led programme.
Mike led the original SENTINEL quality improvement programme, which was the winner of the Environmental Sustainability Project of the Year at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2022, and is the clinical lead for SENTINEL Plus.
With a wealth of experience in both asthma and COPD, Helena leads the severe asthma service for Hull and its surrounding regions. Helena also plays a key role as a respiratory ACP in primary care, providing specialist patient reviews and mentoring clinicians. Helena developed a group of Respiratory champions in 2021 and is hugely passionate about sharing knowledge and giving everybody the opportunity to have a voice and bring about change.
Now chair of the PCRS Service Development Committee Helena is keen to push boundaries and ensure our respiratory patients receive the right care, the right way and at the right time!
Mark is a nurse turned social scientist who uses theory-driven methods (in particular, Realist approaches) to conduct collaborative implementation research for intervention design and evaluation. He has conducted implementation research in palliative care (including the implementation of person-centred outcome measures, delirium assessment and management, and the management of breathlessness) as well as in areas such as prison leavers’ mental health, the design of intermediate care services, and the implementation of health promotion programmes in schools.
Whilst, generally, researchers generate evidence, practitioners apply and patients adopt, Judith's work spans research-practice-patient perspectives, guiding the application of implementation techniques according to assessed need. In the last decade, Judith has contributed implementation science or behaviour change input to 25 funded research projects and over 50 real world clinical implementation/improvement projects. She seeks to advance the science of implementation by investigating appropriateness of approaches within different clinical and cultural contexts.
